I’ve been meaning to post this for a couple of weeks now…but let the challenges of life distract me…well…NO MORE!
I want you to travel with me back to July 1988. Like most couples, we selected several songs to be “our” songs to remember our wedding day…songs that we danced to at our wedding reception. The most memorable one (for me) is “I Love You” by Climax Blues Band. That song is pretty much the story of our young lives when we met and fell in love…I still cherish that song today…and remember my love for my wife every time in cycles through on the playlist.
But there’s another song that fairly new…that wasn’t around “back in the day”…and I feel this song is a perfect statement of how I feel about my wife today…and if I could sing…I would sing THIS song to her. But I can’t sing…so I’ll just share the lyrics. If you haven’t heard the song…I encourage you to get it…and remember it every day of your marriage.
Stephanie…sweetheart…this is for you.
God Gave Me You
(by Blake Shelton)
I’ve been a walking heartache
I’ve made a mess of me
The person that I’ve been lately
Ain’t who I wanna be
But you stay here right beside me
Watch as the storm goes through
And I need you
God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
For when I think I’ve lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it’s true
God gave me you
There’s more here than what we’re seeing
A divine conspiracy
That you, an angel lovely
Could somehow fall for me
You’ll always be love’s great martyr
I’ll be the flattered fool
And I need you
On my own I’m only
Half of what I could be
I can’t do without you
We are stitched together
And what love has tethered
I pray we never undo
Now…I don’t consider Blake Shelton to be a top theologian…but he certainly hit the mark here. If you don’t feel this way about your wife…then maybe you have too high an opinion of yourself. And remember…NO marriage is perfect…no marriage is without conflict and trying times…but I couldn’t imagine living life without my wife and family. Love you all!
Now go find the song on iTunes…download it…and play it any time you get frustrated with your wife. Puts it all back in perspective…don’t it? Works for me!
That’s all I got for today. Thanks for reading along.
